Eyebeam + Park(ing) Day Redux + Us

Thu, 10/16/2008

Oy, mates.  ShootBooth version 2.0 is ready for the streets.  Familiar?  Yes.  But she's got more bark and more bite.  Oh, and she prints on site.  For Free*.

* Only at Park(ing) Day Redux, hosted by the very cool media + art foundation, Eyebeam.  The event is on the street in front of Eyebeam Atelier in Chelsea, and it's in honor of the most memorable and demonstrably cool elements from last month's Park(ing) Day.  Once you're on the block, it'll be un-missable.

We'll be in operation from 12 - 7 PM, and some kind of after-party follows if you're milling about in the PM.

541 West 21st Street (btwn. 10th + 11th Ave.)
Saturday, October 18th
Yes yes yes, see you then then then.

Four Quarters and a Dream

Mon, 10/06/2008

O, the unpredictability of the city street.  A few hundred people stopped by our parking space and experienced the Shootbooth on Park(ing) Day.  A duo of Obama volunteers-- well-meaning, but inevitably, kind of irritating-- seemed to shoo away many passersby.  We had waves of NYU students, crazies, Whole Foods clientele, Dominican high-school girls, and the ever-sympathetic friends and family.  If you were one of the above, big thanks.  Sprig gave us a shout-out, this young lady filmed us for the day, and we're getting attention from Japanese TV.  Suppose it was only a matter of time.

So back to the lab for a general polishing of our device in anticipation of two upcoming events.  More to come soon, but on the horizon for later this month is Park(ing) day Redux and a Steampunk festival in Carrol Gardens.

ShootBooth gets its own PARKing space

Tue, 09/16/2008

PARK(ing) Day is a super cool event started in San Francisco where artists and citizens collaborate to make ad-hoc parks out of metered parking spaces.  We're going to be holding down one of many dozen around New York this coming Friday (September 19th) with a fist full of quarters and a photobooth full of autumnal delights.  We've got voltage from Whole Foods, manpower from NYU students, and a miniature velvet deer.  Come assert New York's public space as just that, get your picture taken, and chill on the sod.  Grass (and our colossal camera) where you least expected it:

Friday, September 19th
7th Avenue between 24th and 25th Streets (in front of Whole Foods)
11am to 5pm

Some kind words are being said about the booth in Internet circles these days.  We knew we were cool,  just not "13-pages Google Search Results" kind of cool.   Thanks to the blogger's never-ending search for cool and trend, we have been swept up in a whirlwind of hype.  We're very pleased with the response it has gotten and we promise to put more pictures up on the site in good time.  Until then, see what others think of the idea below...

Taking it to the Streets!

Thu, 08/07/2008

The vibrant community of Williamsburg, Brooklyn will be closing down its main drag, Bedford Avenue to vehicular traffic from 12- 7pm this Saturday (8/9/08) to promote public space, celebrate the community, and give those sidewalk vendors some breathing room for selling their wares.  The effected area is from Metropolitan to N. 9th Street.  "Hmm..." we thought last week while sipping our cold-brewed iced coffee from Verb Cafe  "This is prime-time exposure for our little contraption."

So we're rolling the Trojan horse to Bedford (exact location TBD) this Saturday.  Look for the giant camera amongst hipsters can do cartwheels in the street.  Hope to see you there!

ShootBooth.com Launched!

Thu, 08/07/2008

Hello.  We're here!  And so are you.  www.ShootBooth.com, aka Home of the ShootBooth, is now in operation.  We're a fledgling company, but we ain't no fool to the marketing value of a slick website.  That's why we got web designer Eric Corriel, to design our website, complete with galleries and other info related to our venture.  Check back for news on recent gigs, new creations from our lab, and announcements of public street fair appearances where you and others can take it for a test drive.  The ShootBooth has been in production since February 2008 in a small shop in the Greenpoint/Williamsburg area, slowly coming to life.  Now, this portable spectacle has a soapbox to stand on.  Enjoy and check back often!
